Meet Me In...

...St. Louis? Maybe not. But you can find some neat things to do around your own neighborhood by taking a look at these sites that do a pretty good job of listing area groups and events:

Meetup
This social networking website has real-life social groups covered from autism to zumba. Users can search the site to find upcoming meetings of area groups that appeal to your interests. So if you want to find a knitting group or flag football league in your area, stop by and take a look. Users can search by zip code, topic or a combination of both. Search by zip code and you get three sets of results - top trending (or popular) groups, new groups, and groups meeting this week. Sign up for an account and keep track of your groups or set alerts for topics that are of interest to you.

Eventful
Perhaps you want to spend a night out with friends or need to find something fun for the family to do over the weekend, but don't know where to turn. Eventful can steer you in the right direction. The site is set-up by default to list events for the nearest big city, but you can search by zip code to center the listings around you. Click on Events at the top of the page and you will get a list of mixed events, but there is a category list in the box to the right of the results page so you can narrow the events by topic. There are a lot of categories, so you don't have to wade through concerts in a general "arts" category if you want to find art shows. Event listings include information about performers, the venue, links to buy tickets, and links to e-mail information to friends or add to your calendar. Sign up for an account and add events to your personal calendar or sign-up for e-mail alerts to get upcoming event information sent to you. Event listings can be customized to see what's happening this week, this weekend or this month.

PrincetonInfo
This local site focuses on events taking place in Mercer County and surrounding towns. Run by the same group that publishes U.S.1, the website also features area news, classified ads, and area company information. The events database is searchable by date range or topic. There are also links for events happening today and tomorrow. While the site doesn't have the whistles and bells of the other two, it is comprehensive and has a local aim that make it a top stopping place if you want to find something to do this weekend.
