‘Bonus Class Tuesdays’ in November and December

During November and December, our usual line-up of computer classes will be supplemented by four additional classes on a variety of topics for patrons interested in learning more about our array of electronic resources available free of charge in the library or at home. The four are:

Tuesday, November 22, 3-4:30 p.m.: Databases
Need to find an article from Consumer Reports, Time Magazine, Popular Mechanics or the New Yorker? How about information on businesses in central New Jersey, a biography of your favorite author, suggestions for future reading, or health information? Come and find out how you can get access to these and other information resources through the Mercer County Library website, where you’ll find such databases as Academic Search Premier, ReferenceUSA and Corfacts, Health Reference Center, and Literature Resource Center.

Tuesday, November 29, 3-4:30 p.m.: Job and Career Accelerator
If you or someone you know is actively engaged in searching for employment or a change in careers, this class will offer an introduction to Job and Career Accelerator, a comprehensive database where you will be able to compose resumes and cover letters, search for jobs, explore career possibilities, organize your job search documents and track your progress with individual job applications. In addition, should you need refresher tutorials in business writing, mathematical computation, or a computer program, these will be available to you.

Tuesday, December 13, 6:30-8:00 p.m.: Ebooks
Have a new eReader or planning on acquiring one? In this class you’ll have the opportunity to learn how to download ebooks to your computer, eReader or mobile device using ListenNJ, a free ebook source for Mercer County Library patrons.

Tuesday, December 20, 3:00-4:30 p.m.: Mango Languages
Did you know that you can learn any one of four languages from home or in the library through one of our databases? Mango Languages, an engaging and highly user-friendly learning resource, offers beginning and intermediate classes in Spanish, French, Italian and Mandarin Chinese to MCL patrons. For native speakers of other languages, there are two additional options: English for Polish speakers and English for Spanish speakers. It’s free and you can learn at your own pace. Custom courses are designed for those who need to learn the basics in a hurry, or would like more in-depth lessons to improve or refresh their facility in one of these languages.

All classes described above are held in the Computer Lab at the Lawrence Headquarters Branch. Interested patrons can register in person at the library, or online.
