New Year … New Outlook!

Happy New Year to all the MCL blog readers out there and with the New Year here are some ways to change your Outlook email!  Why not add some sparkle to your email messages by including a colorful background? You can also create a signature that’s as distinctive as you are by adding a picture, a quote and even hyperlinks. How about automating your signature so you don’t have to do a lot of repetitive typing – your name, contact information, etc. - each time you send an email? Want a receipt that lets you know if your email message was received? And how about setting up a contacts list for that book group of yours? Now you don’t have to remember and retype each member’s email every month! You can also make your email messages easier to find by creating and assigning color categories. Sound good?  Then read on – this is the first in a series of blogs regarding Microsoft Outlook.

For this blog, I will start with showing you how to add a colorful theme to your email.

Open Outlook, and then click on Tools. Click and select Options. From the Options dialog box click the Mail Format tab. Under Message Format, use the drop-down arrow to select HTML format.  Then click the Stationary and Fonts button.

Once the Signatures and Stationary dialog box opens, click the Personal Stationary tab. Then click on the Theme button to access the Theme or Stationary dialog box.

Once the Themes or Stationary dialog box opens, under Choose a Theme, click on the themes you see on the left and get a preview on the sample menu on the right. You can click all the themes to see which one is right for you. Only after you click OK does the theme of your choice get installed. So find a theme you like, and then click OK. Now your email messages will not only be informative but will also have a lively and distinctive flair!

But wait that’s not all!  If you are a font geek like me, you can also choose your favorite font and not settle for the boring default font that Microsoft has provided. From the same Signatures and Stationary dialog box, and the Personal Stationary tab, that you used to set up a theme, look under New mail messages and click the Font button. From the Font dialog box, under the Font tab, you will find an array of options to pick from: Font, Font color, Font style, Size, etc. Once you have customized your font, font color, etc., click OK. And, then click OK again.

If you get tired of the stationary and theme that you have selected you can always change it back to the default setting. Here’s how: From the Tools menu, click Options. Then from the Mail Format tab, click the Stationary and Fonts button. From the Personal Stationary tab, click the Theme tab. Then from the Theme or Stationary dialog box, under Choose a theme, Click No Theme and then click OK.

More tips regarding Outlook will be available in my next blog so keep a look out!
