Camping with Downloaded Content

One of the best things about the end of spring and the start of summer is going on the year’s first camping trip! I love pitching a tent, cooking over a fire, and going on long hikes with just a compass and a map. The very best part, in my opinion, is being off the grid. I don’t mean completely — I like a good campsite with running water and bathrooms just as much as the next person — I’m talking about the lack of cell service. No emails from work. No stressful calls from family. No guilt about not answering that one text from three weeks ago. Just some good ol’ fashioned rest time.

But rest does not mean you should be bored!

Much like Netflix and YouTube TV with their download button, you can take the library with you for entertainment. Maybe, on the way there you want to play a movie for the kids but you don’t want to pay for more cellular data? Download it on Wi-Fi before you leave! Horrible at telling ghost stories but want to scare the daylights out of your friends? Download an audiobook to your device and play it around the campfire! Want to read about that man who went off the grid for 20 years to contemplate doing the same while you dread going back into the world? Download the eBook ahead of time!

Don’t know how? That’s where I come in!

In order to download something from our digital collections, you must first download the app on your device, sign up for free with your library card, and check out the item that you wish to read/listen/watch. The links to where to download the apps are in their specified sections below.

This is very straight forward. Upon opening the app on your device, you will see the following screen:

The download buttons are all in the bottom right of the magazine covers. Tapping on that starts the download. Once the icon turns into a person reading, it is downloaded and ready to read. Just tap on the magazine cover to start.

PressReader

You can choose up to five of your favorite titles to be automatically downloaded to your device. As soon as it becomes available on PressReader, you'll get your copy. Here's how to turn them on:

  1. Open the Browse screen
  2. Find your favorite magazine or newspaper
  3. Tap on the cover

This will take you to the order screen where you can swipe the toggle shown below to turn on auto delivery.
