The database committee at MCLS has been hard at work locating new databases that deliver fun, information, and piece of mind to our patrons. Let’s take a look at the latest additions.

Black Freedom Struggle In The United States is a primary source database that includes public and personal documents that are arranged according to pivotal moments in African-American history, from slavery to the contemporary era. Each era has subsections detailing key individuals and moments from that time period, using statistics, diary entries, editorials, and legal documents to tell the story.

Bluebird Languages bills itself as the world’s largest audiobook library dedicated to language learning. Over 150 languages are included, with learning tools such as quizzes, lessons, and personalized study guides. Log on to the website to create an account or connect your Pronunciator account, then get the PIN for the library and use the Bluebird app on your device for language learning on the go.

Creativebug offers an ever-growing library of crafting and DIY videos for beginners to seasoned hobbyists. Each lesson includes the video, a list of supplies, tips, and any patterns you would need to complete the project or lesson. In addition to crafts, there are sections on decorating and holiday hosting ideas.

Driving Tests includes practice tests based on New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission training materials. In addition to the regular car driver tests, there are motorcycle and CDL driver tests plus manuals for all three areas and a FAQ section on NJMVC.

Headspace brings you meditation and mindfulness sessions so you can practice your techniques anywhere. Use our link to create an account and use the service through their website or app for 30 days. If you renew your access or come back to it in a few months, the system will remember your preferences and settings.

Peterson’s Test and Career Prep brings one of the premier standardized test prep companies online. This database is ideal for high school or college students or adults looking to improve their job seeking skills. Sections include a test prep area to help improve skills on test such as the SAT, a school and scholarship search, career explorer that has information on different careers plus tools to help you improve your resume, and a vocational test prep with career-specific test help.

TumbleBooks contains over 250 animated, talking picture books to engage kids in reading. The site also includes language learning materials, games, read-alongs, puzzles, and videos for our youngest patrons to explore.
