Our library hosts virtual programs using the videoconferencing software program GoToMeeting. If you're familiar with Zoom, you'll find some differences, but the tips below will help you get started. Our virtual programs include guided meditations, lectures on historical topics, and informative workshops throughout the year and can be browsed on our virtual program event calendar.

Before the Program

You don't need to create an account. When you join a library program, you're joining as a guest. You'll simply need the link we provide in an email before the program.

Choose how you want to join:

  • Web browser: Only works in Chrome and Edge. Click on “Join in this browser”.

  • Desktop app: GoToMeeting will prompt you to click on “Download the app”.

  • Phone or tablet: Download the GoToMeeting app from your device's app store.

For more information on how to join, see Join Methods and Join a Meeting in the GoTo app from GotoMeeting.

Joining a Virtual Program from the Computer

  1. Click the link in the email you receive from us.

  2. If you are joining from a web browser, you may need to allow access to your audio devices by clicking “Allow while visiting the site”.

  3. Select your audio option. Most people should choose the options from the dropdowns that say “Default” at the beginning for the Microphone and Speakers.

  4. Click “Ok, I’m ready.”

  5. Enter your name when prompted and click OK.

If you see a completely black screen or loading message,
wait 30 seconds. If the event hasn't started yet, you'll see a gray screen with two letters or the presenter’s camera until the presenter begins to share their screen.

Asking Questions

Normally during our virtual programs, questions are held until the end, but feel free to chat with us during the event if you would like to pose a question to the presenter or if you need technical help.

To open the chat:

  1. Look for the chat bubble icon at the top right of your screen.

  2. Click it to open the chat panel on the right side.

  3. Type your question and press Enter.

Common Issues and Quick Fixes

“The video isn’t smooth and the audio skips.” For best results, use a wired connection or stay close to your Wi-Fi router to improve your connection.

“I can't hear anything.” Click the gear icon at the top right of your screen next to the chat bubble and select “Audio” Make sure your computer’s default speakers or headphones are selected as the output device. You may also need to click the “Leave” button at the bottom and re-join.

“I got disconnected.” Use the same link to re-join, you don't need a new invitation.
