Supporting Women and Girls in Science
In 2015, the United Nations declared that February 11 would be the International Day of Women and Girls in Science. The purpose of this day is to encourage more participation of women and girls in the science fields. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, as of 2019, “[d]espite making up nearly half of the U.S. workforce, women are still vastly underrepresented in the science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) workforce. Women made gains – from 8% of STEM workers in 1970 to 27% in 2019 – but men still dominated the field.
